LIS Education in Europe: Joint
Curriculum Development and Bologna Perspectives
A working
seminar for specially invited Library & Information Science (LIS) educators from
European countries at the Royal School of Library and Information Science (RSLIS)
A
Socrates Project
LIS Education in Europe: Joint Curriculum
Development and Bologna Perspectives
is
a joint European project funded by a grant from the SOCRATES Accompanying
Measures scheme.
The
Royal School of Library and Information
Science, Denmark (RSLIS)
coordinates the project, which is undertaken in conjunction
with
EUCLID, The European
Association for Library and Information Education and Research.
Aim
The project aims at organising
a two-day conference in Copenhagen for representatives of European Library &
Information Science (LIS) schools (11-12 August 2005).
Within the theme “Library & Information Science Education in Europe: Issues
in Joint Curriculum Development and Bologna Perspectives”, a group of LIS
education experts (50) selected on a Europe-wide basis explores a number of
issues pre-defined by the organisers.
The main short-term goals of the conference deal with LIS courses in
terms of the Bologna Declaration, the concept of a core curriculum in European
LIS education, the current state of curriculum development in LIS in Europe and
opportunities for enhanced networking and collaboration.
Twelve workshops
allow for an in-depth treatment of the various issues in European LIS education.
Each workshop produces a text summarising observations, ideas and suggestions.
The tangible results of the project will be the summaries of viewpoints,
ideas and proposals presented by European LIS educators and embodied
in the reviews and reports resulting from the conference. The results from
the conference will serve as a platform for accelerating the Bologna Process
within the European LIS education community.
A publication
will be prepared to present the findings from the conference. The content will
be accessible from the conference’s site.
