The Royal School of Library and Information Science is a higher education institution responsible to the Danish Ministry of Cultural Affairs for education, research and development in the field of library and information science (LIS). 
The Royal School is situated in Copenhagen, with a branch in Aalborg, Jutland.
In 2001 the School launched a comprehensive 60-hour elective course on “Libraries, learning and information literacy” in order to stress the teaching role of thelibrarian. Moreover, students in their final term were offered a 10-hour workshop focused on the library's teaching role
.

Department of Continuing Education and Consultancy
Each year many employees from public and academic libraries as well as from private companies and organisations attend the continuing education, short educational courses, seminars and one-day events organised by the School.

In the last years, the Department has run many short courses focused on IL aspects and the pedagogical role of the librarian.
More than 220 training courses are offered every year in all subjects of relevance to the library sector in Denmark:
· Library management
· Information Retrieval
· Knowledge Organization
· Communication
· Theory of education
· Marketing
· New media
· Webdesign


Training courses
They aim at matching the needs of librarians and information specialists. There are different kinds of courses:
· 1- or 2-days training courses
· workshops and conferences
· individually customized courses for external customers.

The typical customers are:
· public libraries
· academic libraries
· public and private organisations
· private companies.

The main objective is to identify the needs for new skills and competencies for all kinds of library employees and  thus to meet the needs of the libraries.

Information searching courses - 2007

Consultancy
Consultancy and advisory tasks are offered to libraries and private companies in areas, such as:
·  Development of virtual and IT-related library services
·  Library development
·  User studies
·  Strategic development of new skills and competences
·  Marketing, dissemination and organisation development
·  Knowledge Organization and structuring.
