Study
and writing skills
Mandatory
propaedeutic laboratory for all
1st year students (2 CFU)
Program AY 2005-2006
Objectives
and contents
The course aims at:
- providing
a responsible, cohesive and mature vision of the university learning
activities;
- introducing
students to analyse processes and strategies for working on texts so that
they can self-pace their learning.
During the laboratory activities students can
- acquire
some important study and learning strategies, focussing on long and
complex expositive texts (as usually happens for academic ones): concept maps,
expert consultation of some technological features of volumes (mark-up
techniques, use
of titles and paragraphs
etc.), note taking, summarising reformulation;
- understand
the structure of written texts and are directed to expert composing
processes and strategies: for ex. how to define the objectives of an essay
or report, how to organise the ideas, the executive control.
Organisation and
methodology
During the laboratory (15 hours overall) four meetings are
scheduled, in which the students work within groups guided by
professional tutors.
Cooperative learning; knowledge building strategies; students’ active
participation.
Because of the transversality of skills and activated processes the
laboratory is propaedeutic and mandatory for all 1st
year students.
