The training provides an overview about the disciplinary bibliographic
databases in Biology; search strategies, structure and possibilities in
single databases (such as BIOSIS Previews or Web of Science) are explained and
taught on the basis of search samples.

sessions: 2 hours each)
The course provides the students the
possibility to practise under guidance literature searching in disciplinary
databases in Sciences of Life and Forestry. At the beginning the
structure and the surface of the databases
(GEOBASE, TREECD, BIOSIS Previews, SCI Expanded / Web of Science) are presented,
at the end practical search exercises are performed.

The training provides an overview about the
disciplinary bibliographic databases in
Science of Forestry;
search strategies, structure and possibilities in single databases (such as
TREECD or Web of Science) are explained and taught on the basis of search
samples.

Introduction: Image search for art
historians
The introduction provides an overview about
offers and possibilities of the image search, in Architecture and Art History.
A selection of wide catalogues and collections with images of artistic memorials
and art in electronic form, on microfiches and on print. On the basis of sample searches search possibilities
and topic issues of single image collections and picture databases are
especially explained.

Course: The introduction to the
Internet-based literature search
The introduction to the Internet-based
literature search provides the basics of literature searching for homework.
At the beginning the online catalogue of the University Library and other
library and union catalogues are presented and the bibliographic databases
available via ReDI (including RILA and FRANCIS) are explained on the basis of
practical exercises.
This is an additional, mandatory session
for the first semester, arose from the collaboration between the
Institute for Art History and the Freiburg University Library.

Orientalistics

Introduction: Bibliographic databases in
Orientalistics
A selection of bibliographic databases
in Orientalistics is presented; the focus is on the different topics and areas
of interest of the course participants and their individual demands (Islamistics,
Sinology, Indology, Ancient East,
Judaistics)
Researches on various topics
(Religion, History, Politics, Literature) are carried out.
In the centre of the training there is one of
the following databases: MLA, ATLA Religion Database or Index Islamicus. Other
electronic offers in the field of Orientalistics of the University Library
(reference works, e-journals) are presented on demand.

their search surfaces and possibilities are examined. The search samples are
based on demands of participants.

The course provides the students the
possibility to practise under guidance literature searching in disciplinary
databases in Politics. The sample searches are carried out in the
areas of interest of participants. Not only searching, but also sorting and clustering of search results are
practised.

This introduction provides an overview
about the bibliographic law databases and jurisprudence databases (juris,
Kuselit, beck-online, LEGIOS, etc.).

explained.

Introduction to electronic media for
Romanists
The training program recruits
students who attend in the academic year a linguistic proseminar.
A successful participation in the training program is mandatory: it is an
integrative part of the proseminar.

Introduction: bibliographic databases in
Sociology (2 hours)
The main disciplinary databases for
literature searching in
Sociology (WISO 3, Sociological Abstracts and IBSS) are presented. The
introduction provides the participants with an overview about the content issues
of the databases, the search and processing possibilities. Then the construction of a competent search
strategy with the aid of keywords/descriptors is demonstrated.

provides the students the possibility to practise under guidance literature
searching in disciplinary databases in Sociology (WISO 3, Sociological
Abstracts, IBSS etc.). The single steps in the construction of a search strategy

The bibliographic databases in Theology
are presented: the main one,
Index Theologicus
(journal content service – Theology) and some others (the ATLA Religion
Database, the Periodicals Contents Index, the Philosopher's Index).

works and theological literature knowledge

Key issues of the proseminar
How to search for and find relevant literature
for reports, presentations and homeworks.
How to use a scientific library
How to search for scientific literature on the
Internet.
How to analyse and evaluate the found
literature.
How to cite literature.
How to prepare reports, presentations etc.
How to write homeworks and what watch out for.
The course provides the students – study
beginners above all – the essential skills and
techniques necessary for their scientific works in Theology and an
overview about the disciplinary literature search and its possibilities.
The development and acquisition of these
technical skills should not only be abstract, but must face selected extracts
from the second Vatican Council.
Through the proseminar thanks to active
collaboration the ability to write papers, reports and homeworks is learned,
developed and practised.

PsycINFO etc.) are presented. The introduction provides the participants
with an overview about the content issues of the databases, and the construction
and implementation of a search strategy.

online learning unit is now available.

provides the students the possibility to practise literature searching in
disciplinary databases in Psychology. The sample searches are
selected on the basis of the areas of interest of participants.
