The) “Dynamic Model of Information Literacy” (DYMIK) has become an essential factor for the teaching activities at the University of Heidelberg.
It is an important element of the modular teaching approach developed by the University Library.
It is based on the Anglo-American models of information literacy and was adapted to the special requirements of this context.
The visualisation of the information process by reducing the complexity to a visible degree is necessary in order to use it as a didactical and methodological instrument. It facilitates the coordination of teaching activities with faculties, the reflection of the information process as an object of teaching, the functional structuring of the large number of information systems offered by libraries, and the importance of methodological competencies for efficient use of information.
The model differs from the former Anglo-American models by emphasising the dynamic aspects represented in the circle structure, by focusing on human action with its emotional and rational components, and, last but not least, by using the German language as a fundamental condition to enhance the profile of German librarians in the discussion of building up the information society.

The focus is on three basic training concepts:

·    Process activating: practice and its role is stressed and specific training locations are available in order to assure students’ learning success.

·    Modularity: the courses are structured in small teaching units in order to build modules connected to one another in a small curriculum.

·    Action–oriented learning/teaching: the training is based on the concrete information needs of the participants and aims at making them able to effectively handle information and act.

 Dynamic Model of Information Literacy

During the last years, DYMIK has become the most important instrument for improving the image of the University Library in order to become an educational partner and start experiences in academic lectures.
