Among  the FIRE (Finnish Information Retrieval Expert Group) projects, this project was organised in collaboration with the University Network for Communication Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Department of Communication and University of Tampere, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

This case study reports the experiences in using various technological tools and techniques of teaching information retrieval skills to students of journalism. The study aims at identifying ways of improving collaborative education. The analysis draws its data from an experimental partially network-based course that was organised in 1999. Experience is gained from networked collaboration in teaching, the use of the Information Retrieval Game developed in the Department of  Information studies, videoconferencing, using a WWW-course tools software, and doing distributed project work.
