Students On The Web

A project by students at Aalborg University - Master in ICT and Learning

Semester
: 2. term
Year: 2005

This is one of the projects for the Master in ICT and learning.

The Online Master Programme in ICT and Learning is a web based 2-year part-time education
that is offered by Aalborg University in cooperation with
Aarhus University, Copenhagen Business School, The Danish University of Education, and Roskilde University, in order to develop new learning forms to master all degrees of “the learning society” and life-long education.

The Project
The research involves
students from three different years in a Danish primary school.
Students solving problems by searching the web are observed in order to obtain an insight in their conceptions of the web and of Google. The data are analysed and some conclusions are reached in three fields: reading ability, conceptions of the Wide World Web and ability to perform full text search on the web. From the evidence offered it appears that
qualified teaching in full text search and alternative reading methods is needed and that this teaching must be introduced in years 3-5.

T
he project report (111 p.) was available in Danish only through the Digital Project Library.
The authors are Lisbet Kühn and Gitte Søgaard.
